You don't need it if you are trying Fabric on a trial capacity and no report depends on it yet.
A report does not warn you that its source failed last night. When a pipeline (the load that moves the data) fails or brings yesterday's data, the report keeps showing a number, and the capacity bill arrives all the same, used or not. Data leaders surveyed by Salesforce in 2025 estimate that 26% of their organization's data is untrustworthy. It is the respondents' own estimate, and Salesforce sells a data platform.

It is Microsoft's data platform: it brings together storage, pipelines, notebooks and Power BI on a capacity you pay for. That is why a pipeline that fails there shows up in the reports, and unused capacity is money.
Microsoft publishes its rates, and they change over time. The cost depends mostly on capacity: a pay-as-you-go F capacity is billed by the second while it is on, used or not. What we measure is how much of yours is really used.
It does not replace it. Power BI is one of the pieces of Fabric and is still where reports are viewed. That is why a pipeline that fails in Fabric shows up in a Power BI report, which has its own health check.
We need a read-only user and someone who knows your pipelines and your reports. We change nothing unless you ask: the health check looks and measures.
