SonarQube, Snyk or CodeRabbit alternatives: expert review with AI, supervised by people
Your team builds with AI in days what used to take months. What has not changed is how long it has to last. Here is what a tool gives you, what the AI itself gives you and when you need an expert review.

An automated tool and the AI itself review code quickly and on every change. Sondeon's expert review is an automated AI tool, supervised by people: we know more than 1,200 review points, the tool goes through them and a team of senior developers verifies every finding. AI brings the volume and people bring the judgment.
Expert review, automated tool or the AI itself
All three are useful, each for one thing. AI brings the volume and people bring the judgment: that is why our review uses an automated AI tool and senior developers supervise it.
| What we compare | The AI itself | Automated tool | Sondeon expert review |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it looks at | The code you show it | The code in one repository, change by change | The whole system: code, data, server and platforms |
| When | Instantly, while the code is being written | On every change, without anyone asking | Before you depend on the system and, after that, every three months |
| What it does well | It is fast and cheap | It is consistent with known flaws | People who verify every finding and discard the false ones |
| Data, server and platforms | Only what it is shown, piece by piece | Each tool looks at its own piece | All part of the same review |
| What it delivers | Suggestions on that code | A list of warnings | The state of each system and the list ranked by impact |
| Who it is for | Whoever writes the code | The technical team | Leadership, with one page, and the technical team, with the detail |
When a tool is enough
- You want a warning on every code change
- Your team reads the warnings and acts on them
- Your concern is one piece, not the whole system
When a code audit run as an expert review makes sense
- You are going to depend on something built with AI
- Leadership needs to know the state and the priority
- There is data, a server or platforms as well as code
Frequently asked questions
What are the alternatives to CodeRabbit if I want an experienced person, not a tool, to review the code?
An expert review like Sondeon's. It does not replace the tool, which is still useful on every change: it adds a person who checks each finding and looks at the whole system, with its data and its server. CodeRabbit says on its own website that it is designed to complement human review.
Which AI can review code?
Assistants like Claude Code, Cursor or Copilot review code, and tools like CodeRabbit do it on every change. We also use an automated AI tool. The difference is who decides: AI has a lot of data, and people are the ones who verify, direct and review.
How is this different from running an automated scanner?
The scanner returns a list of warnings about one piece. The review checks each warning, discards the false ones, ranks the real ones by impact and also looks at what surrounds the code: the database, the server and the platforms.
Why pay for a review if an AI assistant already reviews the code?
Because they answer different questions. The assistant tells you whether that piece of code has a flaw. The review tells you whether the whole system is going to hold up and what to fix first, on a page leadership can read.
Does the review replace SonarQube or Snyk?
No. If your team already uses a tool like that, keep using it: it warns on every change, and a review does not do that. We don't sell or recommend any tool.
How much does a code audit cost compared with an AI code review tool?
They are paid for differently. A tool is billed per developer per month or per repository. Our health check is agreed by scope. The 30-minute meeting is free, and the rest depends on how many systems are included and how large they are. You get it in writing before we start.
